Jérôme Racine is a lawyer by training and first worked as a legal counsel in the public service in Switzerland. He later joined F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., taking up a wide range of managerial positions – first in the pharmaceutical and then in the diagnostics business – in the fields of strategic planning and marketing at the group headquarters as well as in Brazil, France and the United States. As General Manager of a newly created high-tech business unit, he developed its foundations in Europe, the US and in Japan, renegotiated previous cooperation agreements in order to secure full product and technology ownership, negotiated several new industrial partnership agreements (R&D, OEM, sales and marketing), and prepared a spin-off from the Roche Group with the involvement of two venture capital groups. In 2006 he co-created Sumbiosis LLC: a negotiation management company. Sumbiosis offers three kind of services to its clients: it helps them prepare a negotiation in a structured and systematic way (Sumbiosis 'Plan'), it takes care of the negotiation process on behalf of all parties concerned in a specific case, (Sumbiosis 'Pilot'), and it trains managers who want to apply its negotiation management method and tools (Sumbiosis 'Pro').
